Automated Warehouse Solutions
Axelent and ABB: A partner every step of the way

ABB Robotics training facility safety upgrade
ABB is a global leader in electrification and automation. The company offers a wide range of industrial and collaborative robotics, including palletizing and autonomous robots. Their location in Auburn Hills Michigan is not only their North American robotic headquarters and manufacturing facility, it’s also home to their accredited robotics training facility.
Safety with efficiency
In 2024, the Auburn Hills facility was completely remodeled. One of the changes included relocating the training lab. However, this posed several safety challenges for Jeno Kasa, Director of Training at ABB Robotics.
“Part of that challenge is that we now have a demonstration area in the front of our building. I had to keep a fork truck path open through my training lab,” explained Kasa. Kasa, who is responsible for both the training at Auburn Hills and throughout the United States, was concerned about the training being conducted in a safe an efficient manner.
Fork trucks need to enter the building from the front of the building, and travel through the training area. Employees and students needed to be kept safe, but heavy machinery still needed to flow through the area.
“The challenge that posed was an issue of having safety fencing that could prevent the ability to bring fork trucks in and out of the demonstration area. We could not come up with a solution that solved both requirements of protecting our students while allowing for occasional fork truck traffic to pass unimpeded,” said Kasa.
A partner every step of the way
Kasa reached out to the factory area for potential solutions. Axelent, who had already supplied safety solutions in the production area, was recommended for this challenge. Axelent worked with Kasa to create a unique safety solution.
“For me the best part of working with Axelent was the collaboration. From the first time that I called through the time that the project was done and completed, I felt like Axelent was a partner and with us every step of the way.”
The safety solutions provided includes:
- Mesh guarding around robots and machines with plastic panels for visibility
- Walking paths protected by Pedestrian Barriers
- Wheeled gates and fencing to allow machine access

Impact and pedestrian barriers – where, why and how?
The safety of internal traffic should be of great concern to every company. Why? Because traffic and transport accidents are still top ranking in statistics. Often industrial trucks crash into shelves, walls, and equipment such as machinery, causing costly damage. More critically, accidents with pedestrians.

Proactive strategies to prevent vehicle accidents
Forklift trucks and other industrial vehicles pose a significant hazard to their operators and pedestrians. Though they account for a relatively low percentage of factory and warehouse accidents, they represent a disproportionately high percentage of severe injuries and fatalities.
